Jungle Warfare by Christopher Cunningham

The book “Jungle Warfare: A Basic Field Manual for Christians in Sales” is an interesting read. I particularly enjoyed the layout of this book. First, the book is fairly small and would be great for carrying in a briefcase or purse. Jungle Warfare is broken down into a twenty two day plan. Each day includes an excerpt from the military’s field manual, a verse (or verses) for the day, the battle plan for a Christian in sales, a prayer, and a place to journal thoughts, requests, and the like. Overall, I thought this book was an easy read and would make a great gift to a Christian who is employed in the sales industry.

I Lift Up My Soul by Charles Stanley

What a great devotional book! It’s a fabulous way to start your day centered on God. The short (1 page) devotionals are encouraging and challenging. At the top of each page there is a passage of scripture to read and a key verse. At the end of the devotion, there is a meaningful quote that ties it all together. Though the devotionals are short, they pack a punch and are very meaningful. I would highly recommend this devotional book to anyone who is seeking a fresh perspective on their walk with God. It is a refreshing, quick read!

The Holy Bible – International Children’s Bible

This Bible is geared for children and written with words they will understand. The pictures that are included are vividly colored and very realistic looking. A dictionary is included at the back of the Bible, as well as a “Where do I find it?” section that gives biblical references for some common passages of scripture. Also at the end of the Bible is a “What God Promises About…” section that lists Bible verses about topics such as “my faith” and “wisdom.” Verses such as Psalm 37:5 and Philippians 4:6 are included in the “Memory Verses for My Life” section at the back. Maps are included as well. This Bible is written at a 3rd grade reading level. Overall I thought this Bible would be good for the age group it is written for. Please note it is an actual translation of the Bible, not a storybook.

“Seeds of Turmoil” by Bryant Wright

I found “Seeds of Turmoil: The Biblical Roots of the Inevitable Crisis in the Middle East” to be a fairly easy read that highlighted the Biblical issues at the root of the conflict in the Middle East. Bryant Wright has obviously studied the Scriptures and presents a clear picture of why there is tension in that area of the world to this day. This book talks about the following people: Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Isaac, Ishmael, Rebekah, Esau, and Jacob.

I found this book to be an interesting read. I like how at the end of the book, Bryant highlights the Jewish perspective, the Islamic perspective, and the Christian perspective on the issue. The Christian Response in chapter eleven encouraged me in what I should be doing in light of the conflict in the world.

My only complaint about this book would be that the author seemed to repeat himself a lot throughout the book. Other than that, I thought the book was a good weekend read and would recommend it to those interested in why the Middle East is in a state of unrest.

“Your Money God’s Way: Overcoming the 7 Money Myths That Keep Christians Broke” by Amie Streater

“Your Money God’s Way: Overcoming the 7 Money Myths That Keep Christians Broke” by Amie Streater is a book written to help people get their finances back on track by exposing myths that Christians often believe that hurt their financial status. Each chapter includes a prayer, “God’s Way” (the most important points for the reader to take away from the chapter), and solution steps that can be implemented.

Streater writes in a down to earth style that engages the reader with bouts of humor and her personal, real life stories sprinkled throughout. This book initially interested me because I love reading and studying about personal finance. It contained some thought provoking insights - mainly as to why people do what they do when it comes to money and financial stewardship. Overall, I thought this book was okay (hence the three out of five star rating), but not the first on the list of money books I would recommend to a friend.

Book Review: “Outlive Your Life” by Max Lucado

I recently read Max Lucado’s new book “Outlive Your Life.” It was a great read! Lucado challenges readers to go beyond everyday living and to really make a difference in the life of others for the glory of God. He includes heart-wrenching stories about people who have done just that to encourage readers to live a life that extends beyond themselves.

This book immediately piqued my interest when I saw it, partially because of the author and the endorsement by Richard Stearns, president of World Vision US and author of “The Hole in Our Gospel.” I found “Outlive Your Life” to be an enjoyable book that really grabbed and held my attention throughout its entirety. Lucado inspired me to reach out more through his written word. This book stretched and challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone and to live in such a way that it makes a difference in the world around me.

Book Review: "What in the World is Going On?" by Dr. David Jeremiah

I recently read the book “What in the World is Going On? 10 Prophetic Clues You Cannot Afford to Ignore” by Dr. David Jeremiah. This book covers ten topics related to end-time prophesy. Topics discussed include: Israel, oil, the European Union, Islamic Terrorism, the Rapture of the Church, America’s role in prophecy, one man ruling the world, the axis of evil, the Battle of Armageddon, and the return of Jesus.

I really liked how Dr. Jeremiah related current news headlines to what was prophesied long ago. His use of examples from history greatly supported the claims he made in the book and added substantial value for the reader. This book was an interesting, challenging read and I learned a lot from it. Overall, I found “What in the World is Going on?” to be very enlightening and it served as an excellent reminder that what God spoke long ago is coming to fruition before our eyes. Jesus is coming back – get ready!
